Arnold and Johnstone was established in 1985 by Richard Arnold and Paul Johnstone. Throughout their longstanding history they have successfully completed a large number of projects in and around the Tauranga area. Arnold and Johnstone built a reputation for providing exceptional engineering services and forged longstanding relationships.
In April 2015 Raman Forbes purchased the business and has endeavoured to build upon its reputation, while continuing to grow the business.
DIRECTOR, CHARTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER

Raman is a Chartered Professional Engineer who is the director and owner of Arnold & Johnstone. He has worked in Tauranga since moving from Auckland in 2001 and has over 20 years of experience working as an Engineer. Raman previously worked for both small and large Consultants and Contractors in Tauranga, Brisbane and Auckland before starting at Arnold & Johnstone. He has a vast range of experience including: light industrial projects for a number of kiwifruit packhouses and coolstores in the Bay of Plenty, new warehouses at the Port of Tauranga and Tauriko, heavy industrial projects in Australia, industrial work for timber mills in Kawerau, and completing the structural design and documentation for a large number of residential projects for local Architects and Draughtsman. He has also completed a number of earthquake assessment and strengthening projects following the 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes. Raman’s passion is providing a high level of service to his clients by providing practical and cost-effective solutions.
When Raman does get some down time he enjoys spending it with his family, and can often be found on the side lines supporting his kids’ sports teams. Based in Mount Maunganui, he enjoys keeping active; during the summer months spending time in the surf, and more recently on the golf course.
SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Gavin is a Structural Engineer with experience in all stages of the design process and construction monitoring of residential, commercial, educational and light industrial buildings. He has over 18 years of experience since graduating from Canterbury University, with the majority of this time working for consultants in Hamilton and London. Over the last five years he has been involved in a large number of earthquake assessment and strengthening projects, and has completed numerous Initial Seismic Assessments, Detailed Seismic Assessments and earthquake strengthening detailed designs for buildings throughout New Zealand. His recent project experience includes being the technical lead for a major New Zealand Bank undertaking a seismic optimisation project, where he has completed seismic assessments and retrofit designs for numerous branches throughout New Zealand. Since starting at Arnold & Johnstone in early 2017, Gavin has set up a small office in central Hamilton, working with a core group of local Clients and Architects on a number of interesting and exciting projects. Recently he has been involved in a number of alterations and extensions to school buildings and Council facilities throughout the Waikato, while still completing a number of assessment and strengthening projects.
When not at work, Gavin can be found trying to keep up with his three young children and coaches their football teams, while also playing and managing for an Old Boys team at Melville Utd on Saturday afternoons. He can be spotted going to very early morning cross fit classes - if you are up in time!

Josh obtained his Structural Engineering degree in England back in 2008. Josh works on a range of projects including residential and commercial design, as well as seismic assessments and strengthening. He has had previous experience working on heavy industrial and healthcare projects both in New Zealand and overseas.
Outside of work Josh is kept busy with his young family, but when the surf is up you will catch him out in the waves.

Nick is a Structural Engineer, graduating from Canterbury University in 2012. Based in our Hamilton office, Nick works alongside Gavin on a range of commercial, residential, and industrial projects. Nick has a significant amount of experience with seismic assessment and strengthening of existing buildings.
Nick is a keen golfer so in the weekend he can be found out on the golf course.

Kirk is a Structural Engineer who graduated from Canterbury University in 2013. He has recently joined our team, coming from a large Engineering Consultancy. Kirk undertakes detailed design and construction observation on a variety of residential, commercial and industrial projects.
When not at work Kirk keeps active, playing both touch and rugby, and going to the gym.
