WELLINGTON STREET BEACH PUBLIC AMENITIES UPGRADE
Situated on the banks of the Waikato River, the amenities area underwent a significant upgrade to improve public access with the addition of terraced seating, shade canopy, bbq area and new public toilets.
The existing building underwent alterations to upgrade and convert it to a public toilet block, which included earthquake strengthening with the addition of an internal steel frame to support the existing structure.
A freestanding butterfly-shaped canopy was constructed, with the main structure formed of raking steel cantilevered beams supported by circular steel posts and reinforced concrete piled foundations. We also designed the precast concrete walls and steps forming the terraced seating areas.
